    Episode 2 – Live Chat

    Live chat is a way of connecting with people — there she’s called “Yuna” (Horikita Maki). Exchanging words with people is her job (Note: The first five persons she’s talking to are some of Yamada’s friends in Densha Otoko). Two years ago, there was an incident. Now she’s lonely, doesn’t leave her apartment, and works at home. She can’t normally talk to people. Live chat is the only way to interact with others. This virtual world is her everything. And then her life changes…

    Episode 3 – Actress

    Nao’s father is a doll maker and wants her to inherit his business. However, Nao doesn’t want to be making dolls for the rest of her life and ends up getting kicked out of the house and fleeing to Tokyo. This was two years ago. In Tokyo, Nao gets swindled by someone calling himself a talent scout and keeps failing at auditions. She soon falls into debt and tries to survive by working part time at a night club and holding other extra jobs. Nao wants to be an actress, but becomes very impatient and makes a big error. It is something that even her boyfriend Riku must never know. Then one day, the one person in her whole family who approves of Nao’s goal of becoming an actress suddenly appears in Tokyo: her grandfather. But, her old senile grandfather even recognizing her is another story…

    Shimojou Ryoko makes her living by playing slot machines. Abandoned by her parents when she was very young, Ryoko moved from one relationship to another, always seeking permanency and always disappointed. But a couple of days later, Kyon arrives at school only to find that Haruhi is missing. Not only that, but Mikuru claims she has never known Kyon before, Koizumi is also missing, and Yuki has become the sole member of the literature club. The SOS Brigade seems to have never existed, nor has Haruhi Suzumiya. No one in the school has ever heard about her… except for Kyon.

    The editor Shitara Mari is shocked to hear that Miwa Yoshio, the boyfriend she split up with over a quarrel six months ago, has committed suicide. She also learns that there was another woman at his funeral. That woman’s name is Miyajima Megumi. Bothered that Yoshio had been engaged to Megumi, whom he met through an online dating site, just before his death, Mari poses as a male and registers with the website. She successfully makes contact and when she goes to Megumi’s apartment, she sees her being taken away by the police on suspicion of murdering multiple men after swindling them with the false promises of marriage. Megumi who exudes a distinct air, says she did her best to respond to whatever these men wished for so it was only right that she received money cash or gifts of value in exchange. But if they committed suicide like she alleged in her statement, why did they end their lives when they were at their happiest. As Mari attends Megumi’s trial, she gets completely absorbed in her. In order to find out Megumi’s motive, Mari travels to the island where she was born with sports newspaper reporter Kitano Kengo. Megumi’s home was a community where the descendants of clandestine Christians lived during the Tokugawa period. According to Megumi’s classmate, she had been the “island’s prettiest girl” while in her teens. Mari and Kengo are surprised by the information because it is hard to imagine this from Megumi’s present looks. They also learn about doubts surrounding the relationship between Megumi’s parents and attempt to get close to a childhood friend in an attempt to extract information on her past. What is the reason behind the twist in Megumi’s fate? After a sentence is sought for Megumi, Mari finds a painting in a church on the island. It is of two nude women waiting on an old man. Dreadful misgivings surface from seeing that painting … … Megumi who had received fake love because of her physical beauty, hated that and fixed her face to look ugly. In contrast, Mari thought she was unlovable due to her ugliness and altered her looks. These two women face off against each other as accused and editor.

    This e-mail message was sent by Mika Kimoto, an editor working at a publisher in Daiba, Tokyo.

    The Story of One Century tells the stories of three women, living in three different Japanese eras: Taisho (1912-1926), Showa (1926-1989) and Heisei (1989-present). Her life changes when she meets a Japanese-American soldier… In the Heisei period, Chiyo is the focus. An independent, self-centered career woman, she embarks on a journey of revenge on her mother after receiving a call from her mother wishing to meet with her.
